Overwhelm Out, Good Vibes In! 🎬🎧📚🎶✨
Hello friends,
It’s important to know what’s happening in the world and where we can make a difference. But if I’m not careful with what and how much I’m consuming (my inputs), overwhelm sneaks in. My energy tanks, I get short-tempered, and everything suddenly feels heavier.
When I choose my inputs with intention, whether that’s uplifting music, a walk outside, or a podcast that makes me laugh, I notice the difference. My mood holds steady, I sidestep the spiral, and I actually have the energy to show up closer to my best (or at least not my crabbiest 😉).
Last week I shared about being intentional with what we let in, and wow, the responses that came back were so good. Thank you to everyone who shared their favorites. Here’s a handful to pass along in case you’re looking for something uplifting, funny, or thought-provoking this week:
🎬 WATCH
Schitt’s Creek (Prime)
Modern Family (Hulu — great with the kids)
The Middle (Amazon Prime — also family-friendly)
Nobody Wants This (Netflix)
Ted Lasso (Apple TV — heartwarming & hilarious)
Chef’s Table (Netflix — artistry + inspiration)
Roger Federer’s Dartmouth Commencement Speech → [Watch here]
I actually LOVE watching commencement speeches… Reshma Saujani’s Smith Address from 2023 was so good
Golden retriever reels (because joy 🐾)
I also love all forms of cat videos since getting my kitties 😻
🎧 LISTEN (Podcasts)
We Can Do Hard Things — Ep 439 “Get Free From Perfectionism” (I felt like I was at a party at times… so good! 🎉)
The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos - Love the research and practical application
Ask Lisa: The Psychology of Raising Tweens and Teens
📚 READ
You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero (funny + motivating)
Atomic Habits by James Clear (practical shifts that stick)
Spirit Daughter Monthly Workbooks (aligned with moon cycles + intention setting)
Hidden Potential by Adam Grant (easy to read and great info)
🎶 MUSIC - Because uplifting music can shift a whole day…
Beautiful Chorus (calming + soulful harmonies you might just want to mimic)
Andy Grammer (happy vibes & feel-good lyrics I love to sing with my littlest)
Bob Marley (timeless positivity)
Musicals (Hamilton, The Greatest Showman, Wicked)
And one share I especially loved: a traveler on this journey swapped news scrolling for learning Italian. In just a year off social media, she felt a huge difference in her mood and focus. Now she’s filling her days with Italian podcasts, movies, and even Harry Potter in Italian… mama mia!! What a cool reminder that new inputs don’t just shift our energy, they can expand our whole world!
Challenge for you: Pick one new “input” this week… something that lifts you up, makes you laugh, or expands your perspective. Notice how it shifts your energy.
With love,
Abbey
